The Founding of the LaSalle Street Council
Bernard Edelman recognized that as powerful as the Canyon was and continues to be, there was great potential for LaSalle Street's businesses and government entities to combine their resources as a unified, direct interface and voice for the area. So in 1991, Mr. Edelman formed alliances with the Chicago Board of Trade and the then-owners of The Rookery building and founded the LaSalle Street Council. Today, all the movers and shakers of LaSalle Street are involved with the organization, which rivals other local association in its strength and achievements. The Council's and Foundation's board members are a veritable "Who's Who" from leading banks, real estate and professional services firms, publications and media outlets in Chicago. Mr. Edelman, President of the LaSalle Street Council, was commended for his vision by Crain's Chicago Business, which named him to its 1993 "40 Under 40 List" of influential individuals on the rise in Chicago.
